Fisher Farms History
The fisher family has been living in southeastern rowan county since at least the late 1700’s, initially as tenant
farmers. linn fisher had twin sons, ray and roy. The story goes that Ray and roy were working outside one day and saw a
sign in the clouds: ‘GPC’. ray interpreted that as ‘Go pick corn’. Ray’s family (dane fisher’s
grandfather) was destined to be involved in farming.
Dane fisher has been growing plants and farming since he was old enough to do so (with ray fisher and father kinard fisher).
Dane sold tomatoes and produce with his grandfather since he was 8, starting his own roadside stand to pay for college at
ncsu. His father still operates the same roadside stand near Rockwell, n.c. dane became interested in plant genetics and
breeding by growing different tomato varieties. Dane received a B.S. degree in horticulture and b.a. degree in business from
N.C. state, an M.S. degree in horticulture and plant breeding from penn state, and a Ph.D. in genetics from penn state. Dane
met and married maria fisher (Wisconsin native) at penn state (B.S. in horticulture, Wisconsin; M.S. Plant physiology, penn
state).
